Commission

This quilt was based on a shared history, the expulsion of our family’s ancestors from Canada in 1755 and a shared experience of photographing a shipwreck in Alabama while on vacation.

The photos of the wreck were faithfully recreated and various parts were used to represent the experience of arriving in a new land after a long and disastrous ship voyage. The spirits of those lost during the voyage stand on the shore and watch the few survivors as they make their way through obstacles and hardships to build a new life.
